LaPorte grew up in Murfreesboro, Tennessee where he developed a passion for music and storytelling. His senior year of high school, he premiered his first full length musical, Rain Children, which went on to win the Nashville Broadway World Award for Best New Work. He is a graduate on Oklahoma City University and was the first person in the institution’s history to complete a double major in Musical Theatre Performance and Composition. While there, he completed two more full length musicals, both of which received productions; The Baseball Play (Freshpaint Performance Lab, Winner of Oklahoma Broadway World Award’s Best New Work of 2018) and June by the Sea (OCU Stripped). His plays Courtship (2022) and Plume (2024) both had their world premiere Off-Off Broadway at The Tank. His musical Mommy Issues (co-written with Addie Symonds) was a finalist for the 2025 Relentless Award. His musical The Train Stoppers (co-written with Amanda Freedman) won the 2025 Downtown Urban Arts Festival Audience Award and Best Short. LaPorte received his MFA from NYU’s Graduate Musical Theater Writing Program in 2023.
